 Condensed review:

…must add to your TBR – To Be Read list. Brings Egyptian gods to present day life and is one hot number. The Blue Lotus is one of those books that I just didn’t want to end and I can’t wait to see if there will be a sequel. Ms. Chenery delviers a book that is totally different from anything else I’ve read and I’ll be looking for more works by her.

The Wonder of Facebook

Posted by Marisa Chenery     Category: General

After I signed my first book contract I set about setting up a website to help promote my books.  I enjoyed doing it, all the HTML courses I took in the past paid off.  After doing that I started to think of other methods to help promote books.  Having a teenage son who is really into the internet he was already using MySpace before I thought of setting one up for myself.  He even helped me find a site that had premade templates.  There was one other thing he had that I at first didn’t think would be a good option – Facebook.

What started out as a promotional tool, Facebook ended up turning into something else entirely.  I found friends that I hadn’t seen or talked to in over 20 years.  One friend I found after all the years that had past, actually turned out to be living in the same city as I.  She had lived in a city I moved away from when I was 16.  Another friend who I hadn’t seen for just about 10 years contacted me as well.  It has been bringing back a lot of old memories.  The other thing I love about Facebook is the applications.  I will admit it, I’m a bit addicted to them.  My son thinks its funny to turn his mother into a werewolf using the werewolf application LOL, among other things.

For those of you who are thinking of looking up old friends you should give Facebook a shot.  I can’t help wondering who else will be popping back into my life.

The Blue Lotus Released

Posted by Marisa Chenery     Category: General, New Releases

The Blue LotusI finally broke down and decided to have a blog on my website.  I’ll be using it to post when I have new releases and when I have books coming out.  I’ll also try doing a new post once a week, and hopefully I don’t bore you too much.

Since The Blue Lotus was released on Sept. 10th, I thought I would have my very first posting in my blog about it, since this is my very first book.  It seems appropriate to me.

I also decided to give you all another little taste of what The Blue Lotus is about.  I’ll post a little bit of the second chapter here for you to read.  If you haven’t done so already, you can find the entire first chapter to read on my website in the excerpts section.  Just click on The Blue Lotus’s cover to be taken to its excerpt.

Another excerpt:

The rest of the day passed very quickly for Kendra. After Tory left, she decided to go to the gym. Weight training was a way of life for her. At least three times a week she made the time to work out. She was by no means muscle bound, but she made sure she kept her body well toned.

After an hour on the gym floor, Kendra had had enough and went for a shower. On the way home, she decided to do a bit of grocery shopping. She couldn’t subsist completely on frozen dinners. Paying for the items in her cart, Kendra returned home to her empty house.

Putting away the groceries she had bought, she remembered the paper Tory had written the translated hieroglyphs on. She had only briefly looked at it before leaving for the gym. Retrieving both the paper and the pendant, she sat down on the couch in the living room where the library books still were. To see if she could have done the translation herself with the books, Kendra flipped one open and compared the information in it with what Scott had come up with. Much to her chagrin, it took her ten minutes just to translate the first word. Whereas Scott had taken that same amount of time to translate the entire set of hieroglyphs. With a snort of disgust, she closed the book.

Picking up the pendant in one hand and the piece of paper in the other, Kendra read the translation aloud:

I am the holy Lotus that
Cometh forth from the light.
I am the pure Lotus that
Cometh forth from the field of Ra.
I herald her coming, the
Mighty one. All those that
Oppose her shall be smote down.
I am her one true warrior.
I do as she bids.

Okay, thought Kendra to herself. A little on the pretentious side, but as spells went it sounded pretty darn good. As for it actually creating some kind of magic, she doubted it would work. That is, if she were the type of person who believed in such things in the first place. Putting the sheet of paper on top of the books, she continued to hold the pendant in her hand.

It took her a few minutes to realize the pendant was beginning to radiate heat. By small degrees, it increased until Kendra feared the pendant might burn the hand that held it. Instinctively, she tried to drop it, but she found she was unable to do so. Her fingers wouldn’t do what her brain was commanding them to do. Beginning to feel some real fear, Kendra felt a trickle of cool sweat drip down her back. Just what had she done?

A bright flash of light suddenly filled the room, practically blinding her. She threw up her arms to cover her face, trying to shield her eyes from the intense brightness. White spots danced before her eyes. It took a few seconds of blinking to clear them so she could see properly again. What the hell had happened? Kendra knew of no light source in her house that could have caused such a bright light. Scanning the room to see what, if any damage there was, her eyes fell on something very disturbing. She was no longer alone.

There was a man standing in the middle of her living room. At least from the neck down she identified him as male. But his head was that of a large cat, a black leopard’s head to be exact. She must have made some small sound, because he turned to face her. This caused her to scoot back farther on the couch.

Now that Kendra had the front view of the man, she felt her jaw drop open. The man had the most delicious body. Wide shoulders thickly padded with muscle, which she could easily see since he wore nothing but a short skirt along with two menet necklaces. With all that male flesh bared for her to look at, she did that very thing.

The man had a killer body, one that a body builder would have taken years to achieve. He was all muscle, right down to his well-defined six-pack abs. His legs were just as defined. Letting her eyes roam up his body, Kendra for the first time noticed the bow slung over his shoulder. The arrows for it, he carried on his back inside a quiver. She gulped in response.

She had no idea how long they stared at each other. By now, she realized his head was not that of a real cat, but some kind of full head covering, a helmet of some kind, depicting a black leopard’s head. Kendra could see his light gold eyes outlined in black kohl through the eyeholes. The thing was an exquisite work of art, with all black enamel and what looked like real gold.

When he reached up to remove his head covering, Kendra flinched in response. Noticing her reaction, he slowed his movement, as if he wished not to scare her any further. For the second time, Kendra felt her jaw drop once he had fully removed the leopard head. His face was a perfect match for his body. There was not one thing wrong with his hard chiseled features, high cheekbones, fine straight nose, square chin, and full seductive looking lips. His black hair, he wore pulled back into a tail. It fell just past his shoulders in length.

He took a few steps closer to her and Kendra felt her heart jump into her throat. “Wait … wait, who are you? What do you want with me?” Her words drew him up short. He cocked his head in her direction, almost as if he had not understood what she had said.
